What is Prime Factorization?
Prime factorization expresses any integer greater than 1 as a product of prime numbers. Every number has a unique prime factorization — this is the Fundamental Theorem of Arithmetic. For example: 360 = 2³ × 3² × 5.
How to Find Prime Factors
Divide the number by the smallest prime (2) repeatedly. Then try 3, 5, 7, 11... until the quotient is 1. The divisors are the prime factors.
